GREY MATTER:
HITORI
Love puzzles, hate maths? Then Hitori is just the ticket. Because although this is a bamboozler type of logic puzzle involving numbers, there's absolutely no arithmetic involved. In fact the squares on a Hitori grid could, in theory, contain anything from fruit to famous faces. But for now, let's stick with numbers.
The idea is to shade out boxes within the grid so that there are no duplicate numbers in any row or column. Sounds easy, but here's the twist: none of the shaded boxes can be adjacent, either vertically or horizontally. What's more, each box left unshaded must be attached to at least one other unshaded box (vertically or horizontally). So lets start the game.
SUDOKU
In June 2008 an Australian drugs-related jury trial costing over AU$1 000 000 was aborted when it was discovered that five of the twelve jurors had been playing a game instead of listening to evidence.
What was the game which was so interesting than a 1,000,000$ trial? Yes it was none other than Sudoku.
Sudoku is a logic-based number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9 only one time each. Completed Sudoku puzzles are usually a type of Latin square with an additional constraint on the contents of individual regions.
CRAZYIDEA.COM
Give away free gas, why? The reason is that there were remote-controlled paint ball guns with cameras on them, connected to a web site on the internet. People would pay to fire paint balls at drivers as they filled their tanks.
When we allow crazy ideas to arise, they may come from unconscious places that are trying to show us something. Even if the "trying to show us" part is not strictly true, these images and thoughts from the unconscious mind are an opportunity to look at things from a new perspective. It needs an open mind to get a hint of any crazy idea. It may be silly but, sometimes it may metaphor to something huge like Microsoft. So friends, let your mind speak. Welcome to the land of craziness.
SAMURAI SUDOKU
What can be more challenging than a samurai? Yes, I know. So lets face this samurai in samurai sudoku. Samurai sudoku puzzles consist of five overlapping sudoku grids. The standard sudoku rules apply to each 9 x 9 grid. Place digits from 1 to 9 in each empty cell. Every row, every column, and every 3 x 3 box should contain one of each digit. So lets face it.

About SHRISTI 2009
SHRISTI ‘09
Initiation is half the way to culmination.
“The initial loaf we had,
Was an urge to survive
The initial step we took,
Was a resolution to sustain,
The first letter we learnt
Was a motivation to excel.
Hasn’t it been the firsts which defined and derived the path for the rest? Hasn’t it been the firsts to which we owe our resolved existence? Hasn’t it been the firsts which empowered us to transcend and excel?
And then there’s
SHRISTI,
An opportunity to innovate, a prospect to invent, a place to create and a summit to excel.
Most significantly, for us, final years, it would be an occasion to prove our mettle and a concluding opportunity to glory. With our effort, we will have to recreate the aura, the immaculacy, the erudition and last but not the least, the spirit of SHRISTI. For this to happen, for the ascent to zenith, it’s the commencement, the instigation that is most vital.

About SHRISTI 2007
The Grand gala technical fest of NERIST...
Dreams- so ephemeral, so transient and yet they are so indelible from our sub-conscious. They are the perennial fuels that drive us towards the purpose of our fleeting, insignificant existence. Dreams- so momentary, exhilarating; they are the elixir of our higher, spiritual lives. Technology; on the other hand is an art, a capability acquired through proportionate indulgence in erudition and application. Technology is potential; the manifestation of the 'conscious' thought process; the driving force behind civilization’s search for a greater existence. Imagine a scenario, where dreams and technology have a pre-planned encounter. Wouldn't it be an engineer's delight to witness this majestic rendezvous of the 'conscious' and the sub-conscious? This is what 'SHRISTI-07' is all about-the confluence of the conscious and sub-conscious coupling of the 'fuel' and the'force'.

SHRISTI'09: carrying the tradition forward
Shristi'O9 promises to carry forward and enhance this tradition of innovation. The three keywords creation, innovation, and erudition aptly describe its true essence. But the real spirit of SHRISTI is embodied by its nurturers. The faculty coordinators, student in charges and student volunteers have given their best, both in ideas and in actions. Then there are the participants who listen to the call of their hearts and minds to take the opportunity to compete and learn. Shristi'09 has for the consecutively second time involved the participation of MBA students resulting in its metamorphosis into a techno-management fest from being a technical fest. This year we also aim to enhance the role of NERIST in being the centre of science and technology for this region and shoulder this important social responsibility in an unprecedented way. Participation of school students and special showcases for them in the form of engineering stalls is a step in this direction. We are also very proud and honored to have eminent academician like Professor Gautam Barua, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, Dr. K.C. Velliayapa Vice Chancellor Rajiv Gandhi University as the Chief Guests for the inaugural ceremonies. We are also thankful to the Hon'ble Director of Higher and Technical Education, Arunachal Pradesh who had been the Guest of Honor. Other eminent personalities have been with us are Mr.Pradipta Rana Baruah, Regional Manager, UTI Mutual Fund as the judge of events, Professor Raghukanth S.T.G of the department of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati.
SHRISTI: A Brief History
SHRISTI started as the technical festival of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology from the year 2005 when all the individual Departmental organizations joined hands together to give the students a much needed platform for showcasing their technical skills. The year 2006, 2007, 2008 saw it consolidate and grow to a much larger scale. Many new events were added and innovative changed were implemented by the early flag-bearers and over the years, innovation has become an integral part of SHRISTI.
SHRISTI The Techno Management Fest of NERIST
We want to fly, to scale those heights, to excel in whatever we do, to do something for our parents, country and society. We know we will be able to face tomorrow with faith and hope, if we tackle today with enthusiasm, interest and enjoyment. We know we're the master of our own destiny.
